Romy Opperman (she/her) is originally from London and is currently Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the New School, NYC(Lenapehoking).She works at the intersection of feminist Africana and anti-colonial philosophy, environmental philosophy, critical theory, and critical philosophy of race. Her researchforegrounds the importance of racism, colonialism, and imperialism for environmental and climateinjustice and focuses on feminist Africana and anti-colonial philosophies to envision liberatedclimate futures. Romy is working on a book manuscript focused on practices and theorizations of freedom grounded in Black ecologies and also exploring feminist alternatives to nuclearism.
Romy was a Mellon Initiative for Inclusive Faculty Excellence Postdoctoral Fellow from 2021-3 at the New School and her doctoral research was supported by a Mellon Humanities Without Walls fellowship in 2017. She received her PhD in Philosophy from Penn State, M. Phil in Criticism and Culture from the University of Cambridge, and BA in Philosophy and Literature from the University of Warwick.
